THIS IS A GREAT trick play to get your quarterback into a pass pattern. It’s especially good against man coverage because the QB is often not accounted for by the defense. It’s run out of a double-slot formation and is a shot-gun direct snap to the back.
Make sure that your back (3 in the diagram) can throw. If he can’t, substitute him with your second-team QB. The ball is snapped as soon as the QB reaches the right slot.
RECEIVER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receiver 1: Runs a fly route downfield.
Receiver 2: Blocks for a two count, then releases on a 5-yard crossing route.
Back (3): Receives the direct snap from the center and rolls out to the right. If all the receivers and the QB aren’t open, he can run the option.
Receiver 4: Runs a flag route at 20 yards.
Receiver 5: Runs a post route at the free safety.
Quarterback: Goes in motion after aligning under center and runs a curl route at 12 to 15 yards. He must find the seam vs. LB.
