DEVELOPING OFFENSIVE linemen who know the proper way to pull is critical to running many offensive plays. Pulling linemen keep defenses on their toes, open new holes and gets those players’ momentum moving forward to execute a smashing hit to gain the advantage over the defensive line.
To get your offensive lineman to block while pulling, use the Pin-Pull-Trap Drill. This drill gets players going through continuous repetitions doing downblocks, trap blocks and wrap blocks.

DIAGRAM 1: Pin-Pull-Trap Drill. Linemen line up three across with one group of three stepping out to play defense. The defense offsets to one direction or the other and the middle lineman steps back to play a linebacker position.

If the defense is offset to the right, then on the cadence, the far right offensive lineman blocks down on the nearest down lineman. The middle lineman trap-blocks the outside defensive lineman. The far left offensive lineman pulls and wraps to the linebacker.

After completing his block, the blocking lineman takes the place of the defensive player he blocked. Defensive players rotate to the back of the offensive line. Players must be sure to take one turn in each line (left, middle and right). Once everyone completes each block to one side, have the defense offset in the other direction.

This is a great drill to get continuous repetitions at pin (down) blocks, pull and traps and pull and wraps.
