DIAGRAM: This play is a must for coaches who run the option. It can be run from both sides, and if run properly, you are almost guaranteed a long gain on either the option or this pass play as it’s difficult for defenses to defend both. The initial movement is exactly the same as the inside veer.

PLAYER ASSIGNMENTS:
Quarterback: Takes a 5 o’clock step with his play-side foot. Brings the backside foot parallel and takes a short ride-step into the line. The ride-step allows him to have the power to immediately push off the backside foot to set up behind the backside OT. Looks at a progression of Y, Z and X.
Because the corner must stay back to read for a counter or a reverse, he is always out of position to defend either receiver. QB also has the option to run with the ball.
Pulling Guard: Pulls, but it’s key that he does not turn his shoulders. Shuffles behind the center to get into position to protect the QB. When the QB yells “Scramble!” it notifies the guard that he must scramble to the opposite side of the play, with his shoulders square.
Fullback: Attack the outside hip of the OG and prepare to block any defender.
Running Back: Runs option-pitch action while calling for the ball.
Tight End, Wing Back: Block for a 1 count.
Offensive Line: Takes a run-step and blocks the backside.
