DIAGRAM: Right I, 21 Cutback. This inside zone running play is great for patient backs. All linemen block down to the play side. Use simple covered, uncovered rules. The halfback shows stretch on his initial step, then redirects to come downhill behind the play side guard. The HB must sink the ball as far as he can before cutting back. Since it is a zone play, the hole could open up anywhere from the play side guard back to the defensive end.
Keys to the play: The fullback must get inside-out on the DE and force him up the field. The FB can line up in the strong position to help his assignment. The quarterback must hand off as deep as he can in the backfield. The HB aligns at 8 yards to help with his read. Uncovered linemen go to the second level.
