This is a play designed to take advantage of the athletic ability of your WRs. Since this is a screen pass, you want all offensive linemen and your No. 2 play-side WR blocking in an outside zone scheme.

PLAYER ASSIGNMENTS:
Receiver Y: Must make his block on the alley defender if you’re going to have a shot at a big play. Target the outside number on his jersey.
Fullback: Must track his path for a kick out of the widest defender.
Receiver Z: Sets up this defender by making a hard 2-step push upfield, then sinks back 1-yard behind the line of scrimmage.
Receiver X: Runs a post or fade route as this is the most effective route to draw safety help.
Offensive Line: Uses outside zone rules. “Rip n’ run” to second-level defenders.
Running Back: Blocks the end man on the LOS.
Quarterback: Makes a “flash fake” to the RB to freeze the second-level defenders and throws a quick screen route to receiver Z. Note: Versus a hard corner press, the QB should check out of this at the LOS.
