DIAGRAM: This play is designed for use at the end of a half or game-ending situation and is used primarily against a 4-3 Cover-2 alignment. The objective is to score on a deep pass play or gain a lot of yards (40+ or more) in one quick strike and to put the offense in field-goal range or get closer to the goal line. The assumption is that the defensive coverage (LBs and secondary) will loosen up and try to make plays in front of them.

The split end (SE) aligns to the left and is the No. 1 read. He needs to be the quickest, most explosive player involved in the play. The SE runs a 15-yard dig route. The TE is the No. 2 read and runs a deep seam route, trying to split the safeties. The Flanker (FL) is the third read and runs a 10-yard post/corner route.
The FB aligns to the right of the QB and stays home to block in case of a blitz. If there isn’t a blitz, the FB runs a 5-yard out-route to the flat. The TB, while not a primary receiver on this play, still has a significant role for the success of this play. The TB goes into motion, runs a wheel route at 5 yards and goes deep, looking to stretch the defense.

The QB aligns in a shot-gun formation and he reads a progression from left to right (SE, TE, FL and FB). If everyone is covered, he must throw the ball out of bounds.
A change-up on this play would be to include the TB as the No. 1 receiver to the right. This gives the QB a left-to-right progression of TB, SE, TE, FL and FB.
