This is a good play for short yardage or first-down situations. Short passes to the short sideline often result in high completion percentages.

Player Responsibilities:

Left Tackle: Zone blocks and looks for the defensive end.

Left Guard: Zone blocks and looks for the defensive tackle.

Center: Zone blocks and looks for the nose guard.

Right OG: Zone blocks and is responsible for the area immediately around him. Watches for a slanting NG.

Right OT: Zone blocks and is responsible for the area immediately around him. If there is no defender, hinge block.

Tight End: Runs upfield 4  to 5 yards. Works across deep to the corner behind the split end’s curl.

Split End: Runs upfield hard for 7 yards. Fakes a corner route and runs a 15 yard post route. Curls back 8 yards.

Fullback: Check first defender outside the left OT. Slips into the flat downfield 4 to 5 yards. FB is the primary receiver, so he always looks for the ball.

Flanker: Runs upfield 8 yards and breaks into a post route for 8 more yards. Digs hard across the middle at 16 yards downfield. Adjusts crossing speed to get open.

Tailback: Takes a short step left, a right crossover and another left jab step. Runs counter fake with the quarterback and seals off the backside DE.

QB: Opens left, sprints deep for the fake handoff to the TB. Begins progressive read of receivers. Sprint hard, square shoulders and hit the open receiver.

QB Read Progression: 1. FB in the flat. 2. SE running the curl pattern. 3. TE in the corner. 4. FL crossing deep.
