DIAGRAM: This play is an effective double-option to work as either a QB keep or as a handoff for the R-receiver. The rules for the play are fairly simple. When the QB sprints out to the right, he reads the defensive end. If the DE runs flat, then the QB keeps the ball. If the DE runs toward the QB, then the QB executes a handoff to the RB.

When the QB keeps the ball, he reads the first threat (which is usually the LB). The pitches and keeps are based on his reactions to the play.
