IF YOU USE an odd-man defensive front, this auto-adjustment scheme may be a simple tool to help you quickly make adjustments when an offense throws a two tight-end set at you.
DIAGRAM 1: “Maker” (Man Coverage). This is generally an alert call but can be used as an automatic. The Bandit goes right and aligns in a 6-technique, while the Will stacks on the Strike ($) to the left. The Rover stacks on the bandit.

DIAGRAM 2: “Maker Pinch.” Bandit and the Strike ($) take the C-gap, while the Rover and Will buzz shuffle to contain any flow that shows. If the backs flare, then Rover and Will will have the coverage. Mike LB keys the FB unless an “X” stunt is called.

DIAGRAM 3: “Maker C.” The Will and Rover take the C-gap, while the Bandit and Strike ($) step outside and contain flow. If the backs flare, the Bandit and Strike have the coverage. The Mike LB keys the HB to the No. 2 receiver, unless he’s on an “X” stunt.

DIAGRAM 4: “Maker Slam.” The Rover and the Will stunt, while the Bandit and Strike crash into the C-gap and try to gain penetration.

DIAGRAM 5: “Maker B, Mike X.” The Strike ($) and Bandit step outside and have contain responsibility. The DT and DE crash into the C-gap, while the Will and Rover hit the B-gap. Mike LB stunts to the A-gap opposite the strength call, while the NT crashes the A-gap to the strength call.

DIAGRAM 6: On any “Mike X” stunt, the DT and DE jet into the B-gap. The Mike LB must tell the NT which gap he will be stunting toward. The NT crashes to the same gap on the opposite side.

Jumbo Packages
DIAGRAM 7: “4-Man Jumbo, Cover 1.” The Bandit is in a 9-technique. If the DT crashes, then the Mike LB stacks over him prior to the snap. Have the Strike ($) attack the slot and if there’s a wing, the Bandit presses him.

DIAGRAM 8: “5-Man Jumbo.” This is a Cover 3 and the Bandit and Rover will have the flat on a pass. The DT slants and Mike must watch uncovered gaps created by DT’s movement. $ attacks the slot.

DIAGRAM 9: “6-Man Jumbo.” This is an “everything left” set. DT attacks the slot receiver. You must be in a Cover 3 when using this call.
