DIAGRAM: This play is run off our speed or Jet sweep play. This has been a great “special” play for us in the open field. The QB executes the speed sweep to the right by handing off to the left slot (T) and then works back for depth in the pocket. The left slot makes an underhand flip to the wide-out (Z) coming behind him and then continues to run a wheel route down the sideline. Z catches the flip from T and runs with the ball until he gets to a point to make an underhand flip to the QB after which he looks to block any leakage that may get to the QB.

The right slot (Y) blocks any threat to the reverse, while the left wide-out (X) runs a delayed post in which he makes the backside corner think that he’s “taking a play off” on the backside. The offensive line blocks man-to-man to the play-side gap without going downfield. The FB blocks any threat off the backside or left edge.

After catching the pitch from Z, the QB looks for the post route first (X) and the wheel route second (T).
