DIAGRAM: This is a speed-option play with zone blocking. To keep the pitch defender playing soft, run the seam route behind him. The quarterback reads the window. If the window is open, the QB throws to the seam. If the window is closed (pitch defender is squatting), the QB runs or pitches the football. Set up the seam route by running the regular speed option several times. Also run the same play with a fake-dive option. Another wrinkle is to run the same play to the single wide receiver but he runs a slant instead of a seam.
