I needed to come up with a method to help give my players guidance on which college to attend. A lot of coaches — especially those just starting out — are in the same boat.
We developed a form for our players who wish to play at the collegiate level. It’s designed as a “springboard” for asking questions and helping young players decide which school they’d be best suited for and vice-versa. It may also help those kids on your team who aren’t good enough to play college ball, yet are still having a tough time picking out a school to attend.
Feel free to photocopy the following form and hand the copies out to your players.
On a scale of 1 to 10, one being the lowest and 10 the highest, rate the following categories. Fill in “NA” if the category is not applicable. Complete one column for each school you visit. When you have completed the form, you can analyze the numbers by categories or add up the totals to get an overall score.
This is only a tool to aide in your decision. In the end, you must select the school where you feel most comfortable.
