| DIAGRAM 1: With good timing and fakes, this play works well when the secondary comes up to play the run. We run this play to both directions and also use an option off it. We are very fortunate that our right wing back is left-handed, which makes this play a game-breaker for us. The play can be run with the left wing back throwing — just reverse the fakes. PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES: Offensive Linemen: They should all take an aggressive first step, then pass block. It's critical that the left side of the line hold its ground. Left Wing Back: Should time his motion so he's in line for the pitch off. He must make a good fake as if he's just received the ball and run wide. Quarterback: Fake dive and pitch the ball to the right WB while making it appear as if he's pitching it to the left WB. The better the QB's timing, the more convincing the option is. Right Wing Back: On the snap, his point of aim is the fullback's heels. He receives the pitch and prepares for a possible throw to the right tight end. Right Tight End: He should release and run a deep seam. Fullback: Must show a good fake. His point of aim should be the inside hip of the right offensive guard. —John Castelamare, Wesley Chapel High School, Wesley Chapel, Fla. |
