DIAGRAM 1: On this play, the fullback starts in his normal position behind the quarterback. On the QB's command, the FB quickly shifts to a wing position off the tight end. The wing back eyeballs the FB's shift and when he sees the FB set for a count, he sprints across the formation. The halfback aligns at 4 1/2 yards, splitting the outside leg of the play-side offensive tackle.PLAYER ASSIGNMENTS: TE: Hooks the defensive end. FB: Seals the inside linebacker pursuit. Play-Side OT: Pulls up the alley, looking for the strong safety. WB: Blocks the corner force defender. HB: Drop steps to the outside and catches the pitch from the QB while on the move. QB: Snaps a spiral pitch to the HB who's on the move. On a pitch to the right, the QB would reverse out. —Peter Moe, Head Coach, Athletic Director Washburn High School, Washburn, N.D. |
