DIAGRAM:This is a great fake to use during an extra point or field-goal attempt. Line up your field goal unit as if you're going to kick. The kicker takes his regular pre-snap steps, but keeps adding extra steps to the outside, until he has cleared the formation. Once the kicker has cleared the formation, the holder calls for the snap. On the snap, the kicker sprints upfield to an open spot. The holder throws the ball to the kicker. Make sure the kicker doesn't head upfield before the snap or the play will get flagged by the official. This play takes lots of practice to get the timing right. It's also a very high-risk play, but since there is only one receiver in the route, there is a good chance the kicker will be open. —Dave Loebach, Defensive Coordinator, Covert High School, St. Joseph, Mich. |
